VEGAS IN NUMBERS

Attracting millions of visitors and billions of dollars per year, Las Vegas is synonymous with excess. We've analysed all the digits and discovered that reputation is woven into day-to-day Vegas life – from heart-stopping, high-calorie eateries through to electricity use steeper than 20 million UK homes.

See the extreme highs and lows of Las Vegas in numbers for yourself.

MARRIAGES

Las Vegas is practically the home of impulse decisions, whether that's betting it all or saying, ‘I do'. As seen on TV and in film, Las Vegas' quick and cheap wedding options make it an attractive destination for eloping.

In fact - based on survey responses, wedding figures, and social listening data – we've worked out it's the world's second-most appealing hotspot for running away to tie the knot. It's second only to California and beats other typical matrimony hotspots, such as the Bahamas, Barbados, and Gretna Green.

IF YOU STRAIGHTENED OUT ALL THE NEON LIGHT TUBING IN VEGAS - THE LINE WOULD STRETCH 15,000 MILES

Walk down the Las Vegas strip after dark and the city feels like the brightest place on Earth. From vast neon signs highlighting iconic hotspots through to dazzling light shows, if you were to line up all the neon tubing in the city, the line would stretch a mind-blowing 15,000 miles.

That's the equivalent of flying from the UK to Vegas three times.

TOURISM

Vegas welcomes millions of people each year – almost 50 million flew into the city in 2018. The city was almost at full capacity across 2018 too, with the majority of the 147,238 rooms occupied year round, working out at over 47 million nights.

At an average of $128.85 per night, the hotels didn't do too badly out of it. And with over $10 billion collected in gambling revenue, neither did the casinos.

VEGAS' HOTTEST DAY(S) 8.7°C HIGHER THAN UK RECORD

Las Vegas temperatures have reached a staggering 47.2°C three times (1942, 2005, 2013). Even hotter than the average summer's day in the notoriously scorching Death Valley, California, and a massive 8.7°C higher than the UK's 38.5°C record.

HEART ATTACK GRILL

The (in)famous Heart Attack Grill restaurant in downtown Las Vegas is home to the world's most calorific burger, the Octuple Bypass Burger, weighing in at 19,900 kcal – eight times the recommended 2,500 kcal daily intake for an average UK male.

4lb of beef, 40 slices of bacon and thick, gloopy layers of cheese make up this stupendously gluttonous meal. Want sides? Well, if you weigh over 350lb, you eat free.
